"The nature of the work is to prepare for a good accident"

Sidney Lumet

What is the role of the Director and how does it inform the complexion of a story?

For this DAILIESESSIONS, we have brought together two award winning directors, Sasha Nathwani and Georgi Banks-Davies. They will each lead a two hour workshop that breaks down their own unique approach to translating a story from Script to Screen.

The directors will be given the same script that they will direct utilising a professional crew and actors. Throughout the process of translating the script to the screen, the directors will inform the text with their own unique visual language and sensibility, ultimately revealing their process, craft and cinematic language. A work-in-progress cut of the scenes will then be screened at the end of the session.

This session is for actors, directors and creative professionals who want to deepen their understanding of the filmmaking process.

SASHA NATHWANI

A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts, Sasha was born in London to an Iranian mother and an Indian Father, and grew up watching classic films with his Persian grandmother. His work connects deeply personal stories with an affecting emotional approach to visual storytelling.

His debut feature film Last Swim was recently announced as the opening film for the 2024 Berlinale as part of Generation 14. The film won the prestigious Crystal Bear at the festival. Last Swim also played in competition at the London Film Festival. The film is due for wider release early next year.

Last Swim will be the first film from Sasha's slate of forthcoming projects, each one an exploration of the duality of identity, a core theme in all of his work.
