DAILIESESSIONS is a professional development and workshop series exploring different aspects of the filmmaking process. The sessions provide insightful training and knowledge for emerging and established filmmakers, actors, production crew, and more.
What is the role of the Cinematographer and Gaffer? How does this collaboration inform the visual style and language of a film, commercial or music video?
For this DAILIESESSIONS, we have brought together cinematographer Olan Collardy and gaffer, Vini Curtis - in the past 10 years, they have collaborated on award winning commercials, music videos, shorts and feature projects.
They are currently on production on Raine Allen Miller’s sophomore feature, The Roots Manoeuvre (Amazon MGM’s Orion Pictures, Plan B). They previously collaborated on Miller’s debut Rye Lane (2023).
Olan and Vini will explore the nature and journey of their long creative collaboration, they will also interrogate the unique relationship that exists between a cinematographer and a gaffer.
How do you communicate effectively on set? How do you build and develop a seamless language and sensibility? How do you work with a limited budget?
Utilising actors in a studio setting, they will practically break down their creative approach to lighting different narrative and commercial work, skin tones and evoking a distinct tone, mood and cinematic language.
