We are very excited to present Akinola Davies Jr’s Cannes winning debut My Father’s Shadow at our very first Supper Club.

The UK’s Best International Feature Film entry to the 98th Academy Awards® and recipient of the Caméra d’Or Special Mention at Cannes, My Father’s Shadow is a profound and tender portrait of father-son bonds amidst the political turbulence of 1993 Lagos, Nigeria. Beautifully captured on 16mm, the film follows Folarin (Sopé Dìrísù, Slow Horses, Gangs of London) and his young sons as they navigate this sprawling metropolis over a single day’s journey.

We have partnered with Chuku’s, the world's first Nigerian tapas restaurant for our curated “dine and watch” experience. We will be serving a taste of sleek, contemporary Lagos with Chuku’s meal box menu of Smoky Jollof Rice, Fried Plantain, their zingy House Salad plus one vegetarian or meat topping of your choice.

There will be a post screening conversation with Akinola and his cinematographer, Jermaine Edwards that will interrogate the film’s exploration of love, familial conflict, national identity and adolescent dreams.
