SHOOTING ON 16MM: A PRACTICAL WORKSHOP WITH JAIME ACKROYD
SATURDAY 30 MAY 2026
11:00am - 5:00pm
Ladbroke House, 62-66 Highbury Grove, London N5 2AG
Please note that tickets are non-refundable.

For our next session, we have invited award winning cinematographer Jaime Ackroyd (BIFA winning & BAFTA nominated Magid/Zafar) to lead a practical session that explores the craft and process of shooting on 16mm.

Utilising actors, a specifically constructed set and black and white + colour stock, the session will be an in-depth examination of Jaime's creative approach to lighting and shooting on this format. Jaime will dissect how he works with interior spaces and studio and practical lighting to create raw, visceral images.

The session will be juxtaposed with how Jamie works with natural, available light on the format. Jaime will also explore the practicalities of shooting on film, including shooting ratios, choosing film stock, setting exposure without built-in meters, and mastering focus.

Ultimately, Jaime will interrogate his own working practices and how he has utilised the format to inventively craft some of his award winning commercial and narrative work.

The film from the session will be processed by our partners ON8MIL and will be sent to the participants for their personal viewing.

This session is for cinematographers (beginner or experienced) wanting to learn the specific techniques of filmmaking with analog materials. It is also for directors curious about the process of shooting on film.
